Drawing and Talking Therapy
Welcome, Drawing and Talking sessions are more than just art—they're a safe space to explore emotions and experiences through the therapeutic process of drawing and talking.
The Essence of Drawing and Talking Therapy
Drawing and Talking is a therapeutic method designed to help individuals, especially children and young people, who have experienced trauma or have underlying emotional difficulties. This safe and structured serial drawing technique supports those who are not realising their full potential, either academically or socially.
Embracing Drawing and Talking
By embracing Drawing and Talking Therapy, you'll:
Express Yourself Safely: Use drawing as a non-verbal medium to communicate emotions, experiences, and inner conflicts in a secure environment.
Process Trauma: Gain insights and clarity by discussing your drawings, helping to process traumatic experiences and emotional difficulties.
Improve Behaviour and Academic Performance: Enhance self-control, access academic curriculum more effectively, and boost self-esteem, leading to better social and academic outcomes.
My Role
As your Drawing and Talking practitioner, I facilitate sessions that combine drawing exercises with reflective dialogue. These sessions are conducted at the same time each week to provide a consistent and safe structure, respecting each individual's pace and state of being.
The D&T Approach
Drawing and Talking Therapy complements the work of CAMHS, art therapy, and other specialist therapies. This method is suitable for people aged 5 and over.
Drawing and Talking provides a proactive intervention that supports emotional healing and personal growth. It is delivered over 12 weekly sessions. During the sessions person is asked to draw a picture of anything they choose. They are then encouraged to tell me about their picture. Through this discussion, they are guided to talk about their feelings. This process helps the individual make sense of their internal world. The therapy does not involve interpreting the drawings, as the act of drawing and talking is inherently therapeutic. Sessions avoid 'why' questions, and no interpretative reports are given about the drawings.
Let's use drawing as a powerful tool for self-expression and healing. Together, we'll explore your inner world and promote emotional wellbeing.
