My Personal Journey
My journey to becoming an artist, wellbeing life coach, and holistic integrative creative arts therapist (HICAT) has been an incredible adventure full of learning, growth, and transformation.
From Occupational Therapist to Holistic Practitioner
Hello, I'm Kirsty Allen, the founder of Creating Joy. My journey to becoming an artist, wellbeing life coach, and holistic integrative creative arts therapist (HICAT) has been a rich and fulfilling adventure, filled with learning, growth, and transformation.
Early Career and Professional Foundations
I started my professional journey by qualifying as an Occupational Therapist from Brunel University back in 2007. This experience gave me a profound understanding of the mind and body and highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Even though I choose to no longer practice OT, the skills I gained and years of experiences continue to influence and enrich my work with people today.
Embracing Creativity and Holistic Healing
Creativity has always been a big part of my life. From doodling in school books to painting murals and writing poetry, for me art in any form has been a powerful tool for healing and self expression.
Over the years I have also developed an interest in holistic therapies, exploring Reiki, crystal healing, chakra balancing, homeopathy, herbalism, and aromatherapy… and many more modalities! Each of these practices has deepened my understanding of holistic wellbeing and now plays a key role in how I support others.
Overcoming Personal Challenges
Like many of you, I’ve faced significant challenges, including struggles with depression, burnout, and the loss of loved ones. These experiences have deeply shaped my journey and enhanced my understanding of the importance of self-care and balance. They’ve also strengthened my empathy and commitment to supporting others through their own trials. My personal experiences with grief have given me a greater appreciation for the healing process, and parenting teenagers has taught me valuable lessons in patience and resilience.
So Where Am I At Now
In recent years (since my children started Secondary School) I’ve been working in a Primary School as a Teaching/Learning Support Assistant while practicing my art and building my skills towards my Creating Joy vision. I have qualified as a certified wellbeing life coach, HICAT practitioner and have become a Drawing and talking practitioner amongst many accolades. These roles have each been deeply fulfilling and have further enriched my approach to holistic practice.
